How awkward. I’m standing at the cash. It could be most anywhere. The point-of-sale machine automatically proposes an 18, 20 or even 25% tip. I mentally make a quick decision about the amount.
But wait! What service am I tipping for? Surely, there’s no extra compensation for pulling a product off a shelf and placing it on the counter in front of me?
