  • I am a devoted son, husband, father, and proud dog dad who believes deeply in the importance of connection, resilience, and compassion. For the past 15 years, I have been a passionate advocate for mental health, working to help break the stigma around conversations that too many people still find difficult to have.

Living with Alpha-gal syndrome for the past 12 years has shaped my perspective on health, adaptability, and perseverance. Through both my advocacy and personal experiences, I strive to create space for honest dialogue, encourage understanding, and support others in navigating challenges that are often faced in silence.

  • Losing my father to suicide at a young age shaped me in ways I didn’t fully understand at the time. It planted early questions about mental health, support, and what it really means to survive. Years later, a severe burnout forced those questions back to the surface—this time with no room to ignore them. Everything slowed down. What I had built no longer fit.

That breaking point became a reckoning. I realized that sometimes you have to burn down everything you thought you knew in order to make space for a life that is more meaningful and more authentic. So many of us spend our lives chasing the dream—an impossible version of happiness defined by productivity, success, and external approval—only to find ourselves exhausted and disconnected.

Peace and happiness don’t live there. They aren’t found by pushing harder or becoming more. They’re found by turning inward, listening honestly, and letting go of what no longer serves us. This blog grew out of that unlearning and rebuilding—a space for reflection, recovery, and reimagining a life that doesn’t require self-erasure to sustain it.

If you’ve ever felt lost in any of life’s challenges, you’re not alone. Let’s figure this out together.

  • Warren Maddox has been the Executive Director of the Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc., for 13 years. During that time, he has overseen a re-visioning of the Shelters, overhauled the financial systems and put the organization on a sustainable path. The sustainability of the Shelters is paramount in all they do and has been part of their Strategic Plan for a dozen years.

The agency has developed into one of the most successful in the Province. By adopting a logic based progression, those experiencing homelessness are able to find a path that leads to a permanent home. The creation of support teams both inside the Shelters and beyond has been a critical element in their success.

Maddox began creating transitional spaces for the Shelters in 2017 with one building. That has now grown to four apartment buildings and a few apartment units. Over the past three years, the Shelters reach has expanded along the St. John River Valley to support the work between Perth/Andover and Fredericton.

Maddox currently sits on the board for the Indigenous Reaching Home and the Rural and Remote Federal funds. Maddox has called Fredericton his home for over 30 years. He believes in continuous learning and is currently enrolled in a Strategic Executive Program with the Wallace McCain Institute.
