Editor’s Note: I couldn’t help but notice the reel that popped up on my social feed. A smiling and friendly face, sometimes with voiceover, offering styling tips and clothing options from her store. Meet Keisha – in her own words.
Q. As the new owner and operator of Urban Threadz at 100 Douglas Avenue, Fredericton, what can customers expect from their next shopping experience?
A. As you step into Urban Threadz, I hope that you can breathe as you take your time perusing the different racks and be inspired to use the clothes to help you feel your very best. The placement of the racks, item displayers and color blocking of the clothing are strategic and meant to guide you as you walk through the store. We still offer a lot of the same brands; however, we have begun to bring in fresh Canadian and European brands that are meant to elevate your style and help you look and feel your best! We still have work to do but I think we are headed in the right direction!

Q. What inspired you to purchase the business?
A. I previously owned a business (maternity & nursing clothing) for a few years before new opportunities came along which I dived into. Over the last few years, I have been teaching high school, managing marketing for a private school and consulting here and there but have always had the entrepreneurial bug. Eventually late fall 2025 this opportunity came up and I thought, why not?! I had been in retail for close to 18 years, with a few years of styling experience (which I enjoy the most!) and the last 3 months have totally flown by!
Q. During my recent shopping trip, I noticed unique clothing collections – not found elsewhere in the city. With help from you and your incredible team, I felt empowered to step outside my comfort zone and experiment with more color and patterns. How does it feel knowing your business has that kind of impact?
A. It is certainly a great feeling to know that we can play a small part in helping women (and men) in our store to step out of their comfort zone and try things on that they normally wouldn’t. I am a firm believer in pointing out the positive things about people that they normally wouldn’t see in themselves. Sometimes it takes one kind word from someone to catapult that person towards a better day, even a better mindset about themselves!
Q. Do you have advice for anyone contemplating a change – pursuing a dream or following a passion? The first step can be scary.
A. If I could say one thing, take that first step and have faith that it will all work out. I know that I will make mistakes and will make decisions that may not always make sense; however, I know there is a purpose for what we do in the store everyday, and it is about more than just selling clothes. I believe it is about encouraging and uplifting each person that walks through those doors each day. It is a scary feeling taking that first step and making yourself vulnerable with your dream or passion, but have grace for yourself. Remember that tomorrow is not guaranteed so we need to make each day count!
