Lori bang on or “right on”!
We, the public, are never consulted! Push it through..they will accept. I cannot wait to see the black bags come OFF THE BUS STOP SIGNS after the first snow storm! City Hall and Transit will be flooded with calls about our tax paying residents missing their bus, sidewalks and roads not EVEN CLEANED OUT!
As a city we are too quick with knee jerk reactions to things. They have never heard of “talk to the people”…see what they think!
I personally cannot wait for our next municipal election… hope there is a huge shake up at City Hall.

I think everyone is feeling unseen and unheard and it’s frustrating. I agree that City Hall could do a much better job when it comes to communication. All levels of government need to do better. If we understood the WHY, it might make decisions more palatable. I know revenue is part of it but explain that so everyone is aware.

Hi Lori. Enjoy your articles – glad you are feeling better.
I take a bit of issue with the question in your article about why it took Government so long to release the information about Covid-19 cases and the change in masking policy by Horizon Health. July 27 to Aug 23 is a period of 4 weeks – 54 cases including 4 outbreaks over 4 weeks does not seem like a lot to me. And why would Horizon Health issue a masking policy on Sept 3rd? Schools opened for students on Sept 2nd and everyone knows, or should know, that it won’t be very long before colds, flus and a variety of illnesses will begin circulating soon after. It has been this way forever! I do not find this a reason to question the lack of information, to mistrust the information, or the actions taken. In fact, it strikes me as being quite reasonable.
I have been in several leadership positions over the years and, in my view, it is impossible and unrealistic to expect that all of the information that might lead one to a decision can be communicated to everyone who might be impacted. This is an impossible expectation. Can leaders do better at times? Absolutely, but to suggestions that all information under consideration be communicated in some fashion publicly is an impossibility. We choose and elect leaders to lead – we should let them do so!

Hey Larry, Thanks for weighing in. It’s great to have a differing point of view expressed. My mother-in-law, in the final stages of dementia, is in a nursing home. We’ve fretted since the pandemic began about being the one who would bring the virus to vulnerable seniors. Same goes for the friend I was visiting at the hospital. Information about Covid may be readily available but I’m not aware – I realize that not everyone has the same concerns but at least, make data available for individuals to make personal decisions and yes, I think it should be timely. I realize leaders have been elected to lead but many of us feel left out of the process. I don’t have the solutions but voter apathy tells me the present system isn’t working. If you’d like to share your perspective in more detail, I’m always looking for contributors for just this reason – to exchange ideas in a civilized manner. We’ve lost that ability.

Larry long time since I “heard” your voice. Sorry for the loss of your dear Mom.
I too, like Lori, have concerns ON the Government not releasing COVID data. My husband of 47 years, has been dealt the blow of liver cancer (2020). Surgeries (2) in Moncton all during COVID. Many repeat Lab Work, MRIS, Doctor’s visits. I have my own serious health issues.
It would be nice to know BEFORE we enter a clinic, a hospital, a Doctor’s office.
We both have family and dear friends in Nursing Homes and Assisted Living.
I have caught COVID in one such location which lasted for one month.
Just my thoughts on trying to stay safe.
Namaste
